Your Morning Coffee with a Twist

Nowadays, there are CBD cocktails, sweets, pasta, chocolate, and the list goes on and on- you name it and we’ve heard and seen it all. But a new phenomenon hitting the scene is a nice cup of pick-me-up coffee with a splash of cannabidiol, also known as CBD.

If you head into the office on Monday morning, already fed up with the week ahead, and you look over to see a colleague who is far from suffering from the Monday blues, it could just be because they’ve started off the week with the right cup of coffee- a CBD coffee. As we see CBD trickling into all different products from dog treats to sun creams, it is now becoming a staple in the morning coffee run. In London, more and more coffee shops are offering CBD oil drops with their hot drinks just to take the edge off of that morning rush and commute.

Since the popularity of cannabidiol exploded in 2018, masses of CBD-infused products have become readily available on the shelves- and one very popular product is CBD coffees. It is not just the UK capital where some coffee shops are beginning to provide CBD oil as an extra to coffee, but in most UK cities, where there is usually at least one coffee shop where CBD is available. And the number of coffee shops adding this extra ingredient to their menu only continues to grow. CBD Coffee can be made in a variety of ways, such as, by using CBD-infused coffee beans or ground coffee, ready-made CBD lattes and cappuccinos, or by just adding some drops of CBD oil to the drink.

For how popular this product is and continues to become, there is not a lot of research on how coffee and CBD react with the human body. However, as always there are many reviews and recommendations that can be found when doing your own online research, where most conclude that CBD coffee will give you that boost in focus and attention, whilst also ridding you of the typical coffee jitters. ‘The extent of scientific research on the subject has indicated that caffeine, like CBD, can interact with the endocannabinoid system (ECS). However, a study published in the Journal of Internal Medicine found that the two substances affect the neurotransmitters found in the ECS in opposite ways. This could relate to the even ground that some people seem to find when mixing CBD with coffee.’

When using CBD oil it is always necessary to be aware that people will take different doses- as one measurement can affect users in different ways. So, if you are interested in trying out a CBD coffee then keep in mind that you want to use a reliable and premium product, and the best way to do this is by checking that the company have third-party lab reports, and positive reviews. You can then go on to experiment with the doses and ratios, to work out what works best for you.
